The Story: After Hurricane Sandy left the owners of a charming 1940s cottage in ruins, they decided to build the most resilient home possible to reduce the chance of such severe damage from a future storm. The home is located in a region known for shingle-style coastal homes on a lot that features expansive views across the Shinnecock Bay. Multiple windows were included in the home’s design to maximize the views from all of the main rooms and to provide multiple access points to the exterior water-facing porches and decks. Their new residence is a sustainable, energy-efficient home project registered through the LEED for Homes green building program with a certification goal of LEED Platinum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
